Smriti Irani further said, “My mother was told that there will be a son next. Pointing to us sisters, he said that this is enough for me. It took me 40 years to tell that my parents are separated. In those days we were looked upon with hatred, but now I have come to know how difficult it was for them to survive with only Rs 100 in their pocket and take care of all of us. My father used to sell books outside the Army Club. I used to sit beside him and my mother used to sell spices door to door. My father was not very educated and my mother was a graduate. This was also the reason for the dispute between them.
