It was like a scene from a movie. A young woman’s mother was bitten by a poisonous snake and the daughter saved the mother’s life by drawing the poison from her mouth. The name of this college student is Shramya Rai and the snake had bitten her mother’s leg. This incident is from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. Shramya is a student of Vivekananda Degree College in Puttur and her mother Mamta Rai is a gram panchayat member of Keyyur in Puttur.
Mamta had gone to Puttur itself to switch on the water pump in the farm. While she was coming back from the field, her foot accidentally fell on a venomous snake which bit her in the leg. As soon as he came to know that a poisonous snake has bitten his leg, he tied his leg with dry grass above the snake bite so that the snake’s poison does not spread to the upper part of the body and does not reach the vital organs of the body. Arrived. However, when she raised a hue and cry about it, Mamta’s daughter Shramya realized that the grass with which her mother had tied her leg would not prevent the poison from spreading to the upper body.
To save her mother’s life, Shramya sucked the poison from her leg with her mouth before taking her to the hospital. On reaching the hospital, the doctor told that Shramya’s timely courage saved her mother’s life.
Shramya is also a scout and guide ranger in her college and she is being praised a lot for saving her mother’s life in this way. Shramya told that she had read about this technique of how to stop the poison from spreading by pulling it through the mouth and had also seen it in some movies.
Death from snakebite is a major health problem in poor and low-income countries. According to a study published in Nature Communication, a total of 78,600 people die due to snake bite in the world, out of which 64,100 people die due to snake bite in India alone.
Mamta was kept in the hospital for a day, after that she was discharged from the hospital after her health recovered. The snake that bit Mamta was the Malabar pit viper.
