Scientists found that these bacteria and their variants cause diseases like backlag and soft rot in potato fruits. This produces bad potatoes. In their study, potatoes were found to be spoiled in samples taken from 26 different farms. In the study, scientists have identified 456 new bacteria samples.
Many of these bacteria are very dangerous for the potato crop. The research also includes a Dickeya-like strain and six species of Pectobacterium. One of these, Pectobacterium America, had not been seen before. Scientists have found that the scope of infection may extend beyond America.
