Rasam is like a spicy soup in which lentils are not used in preparation. By the way, rasam can be made in many ways. It is a spicy curry and is often served with rice. Ingredients to make Rasam
Tomato โ 1
Rai โ 1 tsp
Curry leaves โ 10-15
Green chili โ 1
Green coriander โ 2 tbsp
Tamarind extract โ 1 cup
Turmeric โ 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida โ 1 pinch
Dry red chili โ 2
Oil โ 2 tbsp
Water โ 3 cups
salt โ as per taste
For Masala Paste
Cumin โ 1 tbsp
Garlic โ 3 cloves
Coriander stem โ 2 tbsp
Black pepper โ 1 tsp
Rasam Recipe
To make South Indian style rasam, first of all, slit green chillies and finely chop tomatoes, green coriander. Now blend 1 tablespoon cumin, garlic clove, coriander stem and black pepper in a mixer jar. After making a thick paste, take out the mixture in a bowl and keep it aside. Now put oil in a pan and keep it to heat on medium flame.
When the oil becomes hot, add mustard seeds, dry red chillies, asafoetida and curry leaves and fry for some time. Now add prepared masala paste to it and fry for a minute. After this, mix finely chopped tomatoes, turmeric, chillies and salt as per taste in the pan. Now fry the mixture till the tomatoes become soft. When the tomatoes become soft, add tamarind extract and 3 cups of water to it and mix well.

After this cover the pan and let the rasam cook for about 10 minutes. During this, keep stirring the rasam in between. It has to be cooked until the rawness of the rasam is gone. When the rasam boils well, add finely chopped coriander leaves to it. Tasty rasam is ready. Serve it with rice.
