An American company sent a capsule into space in which a crystal of a drug was prepared in the low Earth orbit environment so that the process of crystallization could be carried out with precision. These special crystals are from a drug that is used in the treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C. But the question is that when this medicine was being prepared on Earth, then what is the point of making it in space?

A space capsule of American startup Varda Space Industries has recently returned to Earth from space. These are crystals of an antiviral drug which have been prepared in space. In a statement, Varda said the capsule landed at the Utah Test and Training Range in the Utah desert after reentry into the W1 (Winnebago-1) mission. Now it will be taken to Los Angeles for post-mission analysis.

Now these crystals will be sent from the spacecraft to the company’s partners for preparing passes. The company says that the data collected during the entire flight of this capsule will be shared with the US Air Force and the US Space Agency NASA. Winnebago-1 was sent into space in June last year with the payload of the SpaceX Transporter-8 mission.

Such substances were kept in it which are used to make crystals of a drug called Ritonavir. This medicine is used in the treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C. A week after the launch of Transporter-8, the startup said that the crystal-making experiment was working properly and the crystallization of ritonavir was normal.

In her Twitter post, Varda had said that for the first time the processing of orbital drugs has taken place outside a government-run station. The company says that this medicine prepared in space will be different from the medicine prepared on earth. This will now be tested. Varda also said that this is the first step towards building a commercial microgravity and industrial park in low Earth orbit. Ritonavir’s Crystal was supposed to be back in space within a month or two of its launch, but the company was having trouble getting reentry permission from the US Federal Aviation Administration and the Army, so it was postponed.
