Many governments have come and gone, but could not provide even a house to the family of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The initiative taken by the then Central Government after Shastriji’s death on 11 January 1966 has not come out of the files even today.

After the death of Shastriji, when the then Central Government took the initiative to provide accommodation to his wife Lalita Shastri, she asked for a place in Prayagraj. A file was prepared for this. Kishore, former state spokesperson of Congress, says that the initiative to provide plot no. 11 of bungalow no. 9 situated on Hasting Road to Lalita Shastri was taken on June 10, 1974.

This exercise went on from the then Chief Minister HN Bahuguna’s PRO Puran Chandra Tiwari, ADA’s then Municipal Engineer Sudhir Mehta, State Government Deputy Secretary Hriday Narayan Srivastava to the ND Tiwari government, but the matter of plot allotment remained stuck in the files. Meanwhile, Lalita Shastri also died in the year 1993.

After a lot of writing by the family members, now the development authority is ready to give a plot (300 square yards) in Ganga Nagar, but the final order has not been given yet. Shastriji’s son Anil Shastri says that the writing for the plot has been going on for a long time. The then central government had taken the initiative for this, but it could not be implemented till now.
