Integrated Farming: Along with farming, the integrated farming system, which promotes other agricultural works, is not only increasing the income of the farmer, but is also proving helpful in protecting the environment and preventing global warming. State Seed Farm Aluva near Kochi in Kerala has also almost achieved this target and has emerged as the first carbon neutral seed farm in the country. Being carbon neutral here means that the residues being received from agricultural works are bio-degradable, which increase the fertility of the soil. Generally, there are many agricultural activities like animal husbandry, where a large amount of carbon is emitted. Many scientific researches have shown that a lot of carbon emissions are happening from animals, which is 14 percent of the greenhouse gas. Not only this, carbon emissions increase by 22 percent due to the use of electricity in agriculture, but in this 103-year-old seed farm near Kochi city of Kerala, farming and animal husbandry are being done in such a way that the environment and the farmers are protected. First Carbon Negative Seed Farm
According to the report of Businessline, this 103-year-old seed farm is situated on 13.5 acres of land on the banks of Periyar. This farm has got the status of carbon neutral after research by the Department of Climate Change and Environmental Science, Kerala Agricultural University. In this research of scientists, carbon emissions and carbon storage have been assessed from agricultural activities in Aluva State Seed Farm. This research has shown that the carbon emission in Aluva Seed Farm is 43 tonnes, while the carbon storage recorded here is 213 tonnes.

Unique farming is being done in this State Seed Farm of Kochi, due to which this farm has got the status of carbon neutral ie carbon negative. Now soon the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan will declare the farm as carbon neutral. J Vadakatti, Agriculture Director of this State Seed Farm, says that since 2012, an organic unit is being run here, with the help of which it helps in reducing carbon emissions. Here mixed breeds of animals are being promoted.
In these animals cow, goat, hen, duck as well as pisciculture, ajola cultivation and vermicompost unit have also been installed. Paddy is the main crop here, which is being cultivated in an area of 7 acres. Along with bumper production of paddy, seeds of varieties like Raktashali, Najwara, Japan Violet and Pokkali are also being made available to the farmers from this seed farm. In this way this farm is working like a multi-tasking unit.

Garbage does not come out of the farm
This seed farm has its own cycle, in which cow, goat, duck, chicken, fish and bee keeping as well as vermicompost unit has reduced the waste production. Whatever agricultural waste is here, compost is made from it. It is taken, which is later used in agriculture as manure. Ducks and chickens have been employed to control paddy pests.
At the same time, fodder, grass and animal feed are also coming out from the fields to raise the animals. On the other hand vermicompost unit is running from the remains of these animals and cultivation of Azolla helps in animal feed and paddy crop production. In this way this farm has become a zero waste farm i.e. carbon negative farm.
