Punjab Ballo village in Bitinda district of Uttar Pradesh has announced a reward of Rs 21,000 for organizing wedding ceremonies without liquor and DJ parties. This step was taken by village sarpanch Amarjeet Kaur on Tuesday, the aim of which is to prevent misuse of liquor and avoid wasteful expenditure in functions.
Side effects of alcohol and loud music in wedding ceremonies
Amarjeet Kaur told that liquor is served and loud music is played in wedding ceremonies, which often leads to fights. Apart from this, these loud sounds also disturb the studies of the students. The purpose of this decision by the Panchayat is to promote simplicity and peace in wedding ceremonies by saving people from such habits. He said, “The purpose of marriage is to celebrate happiness and love, not to spend wastefully and get embroiled in controversies.”
Emphasis on further reforms
The village head also said that there has been a demand to build a stadium in the village to encourage the youth to participate in sports activities. The Panchayat believes that this will give the youth an opportunity to spend their time in a healthy and positive direction. Apart from this, the panchayat has also planned to set up biogas plants and provide seeds free of cost to promote organic farming. This step is also important from the environmental point of view, because biogas can meet the energy needs of the village and soil fertility can be increased through organic farming.
Plan for village population and improvement works
Ballo village is home to around 5,000 people, and the Panchayat hopes these improvements will lead to overall development of the village. Villagers believe that this change will help them move forward from social and environmental point of view. The Sarpanch also said that the Panchayat has taken this step under government schemes, which are meant to promote the welfare of the villagers.
