Students of the Electrical Engineering Department of RBS Engineering Technical Campus Bichpuri, Agra have developed a prototype (trial version) of IoT (Internet of Things) based smart water meter and quality control system. This meter will be able to tell whether the water is potable or not.

This project has been made by the students under the guidance of the head of the department Dr. Jai Kumar. Engineers Upendra Pal Singh, Anuj Sharma, Desh Deepak Lavania have also contributed. Vikas Kumar Sharma, Ankit Tyagi, Ayush Kulshreshtha and Mohit Sharma, who prepared the prototype, said that three sensors measure water flow, TDS and turbidity to detect water parameters.

These three sensors are connected to Arduino-Uno (Micro controller). TDS sensor detects the total dissolved solid level in water. If the value measured by TDS is less than 50 ppm or more than 500 ppm then it is not safe for drinking. The aim of the project is to find water leakage quickly and provide data in real time, which helps in water conservation. Institute Director Prof. BS Kushwaha said that the students are working on many projects to save the environment.
