New Delhi: Generally, this is often thought about middle class housewives, their lives change completely after marriage. Busy with the responsibilities of her family, the housewife sacrifices many of her dreams to fulfill the needs of her husband and children. This type of story has also been shown in Shilpa Shetty’s film ‘Sukhi’. When Sukhi, fed up with her everyday life, gets a chance to attend a school reunion, she is considered a sailfish.
We have already seen many films in cinema showing women’s sense of self-respect and their independence. But in cinema, old goods are often sold in new packets and the audience likes them very much. But the packet of this story of director Sonal Joshi is old and so is the material. This film wants to tell the story of feminism and self-love. But at many places it fails to express its views. Newcomer director Sonal Joshi, who has entered the world of direction, has woven a simple story. But there is nothing new or unique in this story that will give you happiness. The story of this film is a mixture of the stories of many such films which we have seen before.
The story of the film ‘Sukhi’, directed by Sonal Joshi, revolves around four female characters.
what does the story say
The story of the film is about a Punjabi girl Sukhpreet Kalra alias Sukhi who gets married against the wishes of her parents. After marriage, while fulfilling every need of her children and husband, she forgets to think about herself. But when Sukhi, entangled in all these compulsions, suddenly gets a chance to attend the school reunion, her thoughts completely change. She wants to take some time out for herself and when she talks to her husband about leaving, he is considered a sailfish. After this, how Sukhi goes on a trip with her friends and what problems does her family have to face after this. You will see all this in the film.
weak link of the film
Love, regrets, marriage against the wishes of parents, duty of being a mother, daughter-in-law of a middle class Punjabi family where patriarchy has become routine by nature. There is nothing new in the film Zindagi Mein School Reunion which the audience is watching for the first time. What is new in the film? The way director Sonal Joshi, being a woman, could understand the joys, sorrows and difficulties of women in their lives, nothing like that is seen in the film. There was no aspect of women’s emotions visible in ‘Sukhi’ which could only be understood by a woman writer or a woman director.
In fact, on many occasions you are not able to understand what ‘Sukhi’ wants to say. This is the story of a cold married life between a middle-aged couple or the story of a housewife doing anything… at times it starts seeming like a sex-comedy between girls. One of the strangest things that is bothering my mind from the trailer itself is how 34 year old Kusha Kapila can be shown as 48 year old Shilpa’s childhood friend.
Sonal Joshi raised such a topic through this film in which she tells the thoughts of women according to the prescribed rules. But still this step taken by him seems aimless. Although the film touches your heart at some places, the plot of the film ruins your entire mood. After all, why would such a film be made in which the director cannot serve something new to the audience?
Kusha Kapila has played a single mother in this film.
If we talk about Shilpa Shetty, who is playing the character of Sukhi in the film, then she has looked quite energetic, while Kusha has made a good start in the film, who is seen proudly becoming a single mother. Apart from these, Pavleen and Dilnaz have also done justice to their characters. Although Chaitanya’s character is a bit stale, he seems to be trying to make it believable to some extent. The character of Amit aka Dhaanshi can also entertain you. He is a welcome relief in this tiring film. This film is 2 stars from our side.
