The Delhi Jal Board has prepared a summer action plan after ascertaining the ground reality to get rid of the drinking water shortage for the residents of the capital during the summer season. The board will implement its plan during this month. After talking to the MLAs, the board has made a plan to find out about the drinking water shortage areas and make water available in them. The board will send water to these areas by operating tankers and valves.

Delhi Jal Board provides about 990 MGD of water per day. The demand of water in the capital during winter and rainy season is about 1150 MGD and during summer season the demand of water increases by about 200 MGD. In this way, there is a difference of about 350 MGD in the demand and supply of water in summer and drinking water supply does not reach in many areas, but this time the Jal Board has not decided to provide drinking water to all the areas in the summer season. Rather, a plan has also been made. Although the Jal Board has not yet disclosed its plan.

According to the board, keeping in mind the increasing need of water in summer, a summer action plan has been prepared. After talking to the MLAs, we have come to know about the areas having shortage of drinking water and have alerted the control room for 24 hours to supply water to them and the arrangement of tankers has been ensured in all the control rooms. Apart from this, the work of installing about 400 new tubewells is going on and these tubewells will start providing water by the end of this month. At the same time, booster pumps have been repaired and leakage in the lines has also been removed.

On the other hand, the Jal Board has decided to use the valve system to supply water to the areas affected by the drinking water crisis. By closing the valves of the areas around these areas, water will be supplied to them and time will be fixed to supply water to all the areas. During this, efforts will be made to get water in all the areas at equal time.

Jal Board’s preparation to supply water

  • 865 MGD of water is available from nine water treatment plants
  • 125 MGD of water is available through rain well and tube well.
  • Preparations have been made to provide water through 1050 tankers in the areas affected by drinking water.
  • Arrangement of 96 Water ATMs and E-Pyau to make water available in areas demanding drinking water
