The Supreme Court has banned the demolition of commercial establishments in Akbarnagar till March 4. Till then the businessmen can remove their goods from here. The apex court has also asked not to take any action on the residential buildings located behind these shops till the order of Allahabad High Court comes.

While hearing the hearing, the bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna found that the shopkeepers were accepting that the land was not theirs. The bench said, when you are accepting that the land belongs to the government then how can you take possession of it. However, the bench has given time till 12 midnight of March 4 to remove the goods from the shops.

The bench said, after this the LDA will be free to take demolition action. On 27th, Allahabad High Court had cleared the way for this by rejecting the petition of the occupiers.

After the court order, LDA had started action from Tuesday evening. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) KM Nataraj, appearing for the authority, said that so far 23 commercial establishments have been demolished.

In another petition related to demolition of residential properties on government land, the bench directed that no action should be taken till the High Court’s verdict is pronounced. The High Court had recently reserved its decision in the matter. These residential properties are behind the shops which have been ordered to be demolished by the High Court. The bench sternly told ASG Nataraj, many of them are poor. Do not take hasty action. Wait for the High Court’s verdict. Justice Khanna asked for adopting a humanitarian approach regarding rehabilitation.
