In the ‘Angels of Delhi’ scheme case, the Supreme Court warned the Delhi government that if it misleads the court, a heavy fine will be imposed, which will set an example. In fact, the state government has accused the LG office of obstructing the release of funds for the scheme. In response, the LG office said, the Lieutenant Governor has been unnecessarily dragged, he has nothing to do with it. The decision on the scheme is taken by the Society of the Health Minister of the Government.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta on Friday asked the office of Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena to file an affidavit within two weeks on the Aam Aadmi Party government’s plea. The bench’s direction came after senior advocate Sanjay Jain, representing the LG, said that the LG’s office was not involved in the matter. He said, this is not a case where there is any issue between the Council of Ministers and the LG. The scheme is run by a society headed by the Health Minister of Delhi. A meeting was held on January 2 under the leadership of the Health Minister and a decision has been taken to release funds. On this the bench said, file an affidavit to this effect. If it is found true that the minister has misled us, we will impose a heavy fine.
Don’t make every issue a prestige issue: Bench
As soon as the hearing began, the bench was informed that the LG had not filed his reply on the petition. On this the bench said, ask the LG not to make every issue a prestige issue. On this, LG’s lawyer Jain said, this petition is a classic case of ‘storm in a teacup’ because there is a lot of ado about nothing.

Under the Farishte Delhi scheme, if any person gets injured in a road accident, he gets treatment facility in a private hospital. The government bears its entire expense. Delhi government started it in 2018. However it was closed due to lack of funds. AAP government had alleged that LG office is not releasing funds. Not only this, AAP had filed a PIL in the Supreme Court demanding the resumption of the scheme. The Supreme Court had sought reply on the government’s petition.
