The Supreme Court dismissed a PIL filed against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, terming it politically motivated. Also said that the court should not be made an arena of politics. The petition said that for his vested interests, Kejriwal is misusing the names and national symbols of freedom fighters like BR Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh in the background during his speeches.

The petitioner said that the Center should be directed to take appropriate action to stop this misuse. A bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Sandeep Mehta on Tuesday refused to consider this petition and raised the question as to why the court is being made a political arena.

In view of the reluctance of the apex court, the petitioner withdrew the PIL.

It was said in the petition: One named Vinay Pathak had said in his petition that the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression should not allow a person to misuse national symbols and names of freedom struggle heroes for personal gain. Needed It is very disturbing that a contemporary politician is comparing his image with that of two persons who are beyond doubt national heroes and icons.

Sisodia cites relief from Supreme Court to Kejriwal for bail

Manish Sisodia said before the High Court that the Supreme Court has provided relief to Benoy Babu, Sanjay Singh and Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case. Apart from this, there is no danger of their escape. In such a situation he is entitled to bail. At the same time, ED expressed strong objection to his bail. The court reserved its decision on bail.

Sisodia’s lawyer said before Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma that the three have been granted relief after his client’s bail plea was rejected. Senior advocate Mohit Mathur argued that they cannot escape the fact that they did not arrest Sisodia before filing the charge sheet, he has been in custody for nearly 15 months. Sisodia is in custody since February 26, 2023. He is being investigated by both CBI and ED in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.

No progress at all in the case

Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, appearing for Sisodia, argued that the case against the AAP leader is unlikely to start soon. The investigation in both the cases is still going on. Arrests are still going on in this. There has been no progress at all in this case. Special counsel Zoheb Hussain, appearing for the ED, said the Supreme Court has not limited the powers of the trial court to consider Sisodia’s bail plea on merits.
