For Tata Motors, it took a year to retool the facility, and will further expand the company’s manufacturing power.

How is Tata’s new Sanand plant?

We had a detailed visit to the plant and there are four main workshops covering stamping, body construction, paint etc. It is 100 percent fully automatic and major retooling includes press shop, weld shop, paint shop and assembly shop. Overall, the new plant has a capacity of 300,000 units which can be expanded to 420,000 units. Whereas both EV and ICE cars are made on the same line. The plant has more than 1000 employees and also has an in-house training centre.

Many new models will be manufactured at the Sanand plant

The upcoming model Curve and many upcoming models will also be made in this plant, which may include Avinya. Nexon is manufactured in this new plant, which is currently one of the most popular models of the company. Tata Motors also says that by 2026, the Sanand plant will run on 100 percent renewable energy. Tata Motors currently has an aggressive product launch strategy, especially with EVs. Because after the recent launch of Punch EV, the company is now preparing to launch other products like Curve EV and Harrier EV. Apart from these, the company is also working on other models.

The next launch curve for the company will be that it will first come in EV form, after that it will be introduced in diesel version and later in petrol version. Once the existing Tata Motors plant starts functioning at full capacity, this new facility will manufacture many new models, and will also help in reducing the waiting period for customers.
