Janeu Latest News: A young man has been insulted for wearing the sacred thread (a kind of thread worn on the body) which is considered very sacred in Hinduism. He was first stopped, then his sacred thread was cut and thrown away and later he was threatened not to wear it again.

The whole incident is from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, South India. According to the report of news agency PTI-Bhasha, the victim has been identified as 24-year-old Akhilesh. He was going to the local Astik Samaj run by Brahmins to participate in bhajans on the evening of September 21, 2024.

Seeing the sacred thread they started making fun of it!

On the way, the victim was stopped by three people on a motorcycle in Palayamkottai and after cutting his sacred thread and throwing it away, they started making fun of him. After the victim’s complaint, the police registered a case. On Monday, police officials informed that when the victim was going to the program wearing a dhoti and without a shirt, three people on a motorcycle stopped him.

According to the police statement, “The youths cut off Akhilesh’s sacred thread (called Poonool in Tamil) and threw it away. They then started mocking him and told him not to wear the Poonool again.” On learning about the matter, officials of Hindu Munnani (RSS-affiliated organisation) along with officials of Aastik Samaj lodged a complaint with Perumalpuram police (Palayamkottai) on the night of 21 September. They said that a case has been registered.
