The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
Morbi district remained in discussion in Gujarat elections. The district was in limelight because of the bridge accident just before the elections. 135 people lost their lives in this accident. BJP’s Durlabhjibhai Harkhjibhai Detharia defeated Lalitbhai Kagathara of INC by 10,256 votes in Tankara assembly seat of the district. BJP candidate got 83,274 votes while Congress got 73,018 votes here. You were at number three. Its candidate Sanjay Bhatasana (Patel) got 17,834 votes, which was 9.98 percent of the total votes. The deposits of three including AAP and BSP candidates were forfeited. NOTA got 1,993 votes here.
Congress got victory in 2017
The Congress had won the Tankara seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress had made Lalitbhai Kagathara its candidate from this seat. Kagathara defeated BJP’s Raghavjibhai Jivrajbhai Gadra by a margin of 29,000 votes. A total of 11 candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the other nine candidates were forfeited.
BJP’s account was not opened in Morbi district in 2017
Tankara seat is one of the three seats under Morbi district. In 2017, the Congress had won all the three seats in the district. The BJP had failed to win even a single seat here. The Congress had won the Tankara seat after 32 years. However, this time the Congress failed to retain the seat. Prior to 2017, the Congress had won the Tankara seat in 1985. After this, the BJP was successful in winning the by-elections in 1990, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2014 for seven consecutive times, including a by-election. BJP’s Mohan Kundariya has been MLA from this seat for five consecutive terms. Kundariya became a Member of Parliament in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. After this, the BJP got victory in the by-election held here as well.
