But this character has been missing from the show for the last several years. Dayaben is not being shown in the serial. Actually, Disha Vakani was playing the role of Dayaben in the show. But then she went on maternity leave in the middle and did not return to the show. After this, Disha left the show.

Now, in a recent interview with ETimes, Munmun Dutta, who plays the popular character of ‘Babita Ji’, recalled working with Disha and said that she misses her a lot. The actress said, ‘We always remember those who have left the show. I miss Disha a lot. Whenever we tell jokes, we remember ‘remember when Disha said this or that’, we have a lot of good memories together. Whenever Disha used to get calls from unknown numbers, she used to change her voice before answering them.’
Let us tell you that the audience liked Disha Vakani’s character in the show very much. However, she went on maternity leave in the year 2017 and has not returned since then. However, TMKOC producer Asit Modi told E-Times in August 2023 that the search for the new Dayaben is on. He had said, ‘The viewers of the show are waiting to see their favorite Dayaben back in the show. It is not easy to select someone for the character and it will be difficult for any actress to play the character of Disha.’
Asit Modi had said that ‘I still want our real Daya Bhabhi i.e. Disha Vakani to come back. Disha is like my sister. She wants to spend time with her family. She has two children. If she does not want to come back, I cannot force her.’ Let us tell you that Disha Vakani is not the only actor who has left TMKOC in the 16-year journey of the show. Many stars including Raj Anadkat, Gurcharan Singh, Jennifer Mistry and Kush Shah have also left the show.
