Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on this day and this day was started many years ago to express respect towards him.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan had made many important contributions in the field of education. To pay respect to him, this day, i.e. his birthday, 5 September, was started to be celebrated as Teacher’s Day. He was also a teacher, scholar and renowned philosopher. He was also awarded the country’s highest honour, Bharat Ratna.

This is how it started

It is said that Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a favourite of his students. His students wanted him to celebrate his birthday with great pomp. However, he did not agree to this and gave his consent to celebrate this day as Teachers’ Day. Since then, this day is celebrated as Teachers’ Day till date, which is also the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was the President of India from 1962 to 1967.

When was it celebrated for the first time

Since 1962, September 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in the country. On this day, tribute is given to Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan in all schools, colleges and other educational institutes and Teachers’ Day is celebrated. Somewhere programs are organized on this occasion, somewhere some other method is adopted to say thank you to him.
