In Agra, Uttar Pradesh, teachers are continuously protesting against online attendance in council schools. On Saturday, a teacher fell ill in Barhan Muralidharpur Composite School of Etmadpur block. He had to be taken to a doctor for treatment. His blood pressure had become low.

Assistant teacher Prem Singh posted in the school says that all the teachers are worried since the order of online attendance came. He also always thinks about how to mark attendance. He comes from 35 km away. There was pressure from the principal and administrative officials as well. There was no electricity in the school in the afternoon. That is when his blood pressure became low. Such an order should be withdrawn.

Secondary Teachers Union protested

The order to issue salary bills based on biometric attendance in government secondary schools has created a stir in the teachers’ union. Teachers’ leaders say that if the system is implemented in aided schools, there will be protests. Earlier also this system was not allowed to be implemented. There are about 39 government colleges in the district, whose salaries will now be issued based on biometric attendance.

Ajay Sharma, divisional minister of the Secondary Teachers’ Union (Sharma group), says that teachers are not illiterate to put their thumb impression for attendance. Biometric attendance was opposed earlier as well. Now if this rule is implemented forcefully in aided schools again, then it will be opposed.

Teacher Sushil Lavania says that cameras and internet have been arranged in government schools. Teachers can mark attendance there using biometrics but aided schools lack these facilities. First, there is a need to improve the condition of these schools.
