Employed teachers took out a torch procession on Friday evening in protest against the competency test in Sitamarhi, Bihar. During this, slogans were raised against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and ACS KK Pathak. At the same time, the teachers have demanded to abolish the competency test and give them the status of state employee. The said torch procession left Dumra airfield and passed through District Headquarters, Badi Bazar, Shankar Chowk and ended back at the airfield.

According to the information, thousands of employed teachers and teachers participated in the torch procession. The employed teachers who participated in the procession said that the government should immediately fulfill our demands and implement the provision of keeping us in our own district. The teachers participating in the protest said that things are not going well with the teachers employed in Bihar. He is making rules regarding employed teachers as per his wish. Because of this the teachers are angry. At the same time, he further said that the service of a teacher who fails in the examination thrice will be terminated. There is anger among teachers due to this decision.

Teacher leaders participating in the torch procession said that according to the teacher employment rules, there is a provision for employed teachers to remain in the job till the age of 60 years. He said that this is a highly condemnable decision. This is an order contrary to the teacher employment rules. Teachers will challenge this decision. Employed teachers are being harassed through different decisions. The teachers said that the government will have to withdraw this decision under any circumstances, otherwise the teachers will be forced to launch an even bigger movement.

It is noteworthy that it has been decided to conduct the first competency test for employed teachers from 26th February. Teachers will be given three chances to pass the competency test. After the first competency test to be held on 26th February and declaration of its result, consecutive examinations in three phases will be conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board. Those teachers who do not appear in three of these four phase examinations or appear in less than three phases or do not pass after appearing in three phase examinations, then the service of all those local body teachers is terminated.
