A shocked family in the Morelia, Obrera city in Mexico’s Michoacán state contacted Catholic authorities when dark red tears began flowing from the statue’s eyes on June 2. The statue’s exact location has not yet been made public, to protect the family involved.

The Archdiocese of Morelia said in a statement: “It is necessary to highlight the need to exercise caution when considering such a delicate issue as the alleged miracle.” They added: “The Archdiocese of Morelia is taking the necessary measures to investigate the situation in a thorough and detailed manner. Therefore, it is too early to issue a definitive position on the matter. But the Church does consider this an occasion for family prayer and invites people to do so.
