Thank You For Coming Movie Review: Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaz Gill, Shibani Bedi and YouTubers-turned-actress Kusha Kapila and Dolly Singh starrer film ‘Thanks for Coming’ was released on the big screen. Before the release, Bhumi Pednekar and other cast promoted it as a feminist film that demolishes patriarchy and promotes women empowerment. But does this film really advocate breaking patriarchy and empowering women? It does not seem so from the title and story line of the film. Yes, it is definitely true that it touches upon these issues at some places. Many layers have been shown in this film with short run time. Different films have already been made on these layers and are being made. Be it the desire of women or their struggle to live their lives safely or the issue of LGBTQ, if it is raised in the right way then it would be accessible to more and more people, but this could not happen here.
‘Thank you for coming’ is the story of elite class girl Kanika Kapoor, who is brought up by a single mother, a gynecologist. During her school days, people started calling her Thandi and Kandu Kanika. Kanika has had fairy tale desires of sex and orgasm since the age of 16. She wants the king of her dreams i.e. Veer Pratap. Who knows who this Veer Pratap is? But she herself says, ‘Love like Veer Pratap and shower like Sunny Leone.’ Since her teenage years, Kanika has been waiting for the completion of her fairy tale in which she will kiss a frog and as soon as she kisses him, the frog will become a prince. From school days till adulthood, she gets physical with multiple partners but she does not get that orgasm.

The film tries hard to promote the idea of self-love and self-care, but represents feminism only in a nominal and negative manner. Kanika does not get any happy boyfriend till the age of 30. Arjun Malhotra (Karan Kundra) becomes his crush. On her 30th birthday, Kanika feels that now she will not find any partner. During her birthday party, she tells her friends Tina (Shivani Bedi) and Pallavi (Dolly Singh) that she has never experienced an orgasm.

Direction-Screenplay of Thank You for Coming
The first half of the film is quite turbulent. You will get little interest in the second half but as soon as you enjoy it, you will feel what has happened. The most shocking thing is to know about Rahul. But even before that scene you can guess what is going to happen. Karan Boolani has directed for the first time, which looks a bit weak. Their viewpoint does not match that of the middle class or lower class.
As already said that this is the story of an elite class girl, so it can be cheap for women and girls from ordinary families. The way scenes like wax and masturbation are shown on the big screen, you and anyone sitting next to you may become uncomfortable. The theme of the film is very similar to ‘Veere Di Wedding’. Everything from Kanika’s masturbation scene to the music theme. The songs are also not such that you can care about them.
Acting in Thank You for Coming
Bhumi Pednekar is a great actress. We have seen it in his previous films. Shahnaz Gill’s role suits her personality. Dolly Singh and Shibani Bedi have performed well. However, Kusha Kapila and Karan Kundra have got very less screen space.
