The baby was growing in the womb, the mother’s body itself became its enemy, this rare case surprised the doctors!

A baby is most safe in its mother’s womb. But can it be possible that the baby in the womb starts feeling threatened by its own mother? An American woman’s baby had to face such a strange situation because it was “attacked” by its mother’s body in such a way that its condition reached a battle of life and death. Actually, the blood in the baby’s body was very different from the mother’s blood, due to which the mother’s body started considering the foetus as its own enemy. The whole story is being seen as a rare case in the medical world.

The baby, named Arthur William, needed two emergency blood transfusions. Arthur is now a year old, but he was not growing as fast as expected in the womb.

They discovered the unborn baby had the same rare blood type as his father Matt Williams, 33, called Rh negative. Mother-of-three Sam Williams, 29, had a different blood type, so her body saw the baby as a “foreign object” and her immune system attacked it.

Arthur had to be born two weeks early via C-section and was rushed to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff with severe jaundice and was not his normal yellow colour. At seven months old, doctors noticed Arthur was not growing fast enough and checked his and Matt’s blood group. Doctors warned that Arthur could be born with severe jaundice and could have hearing loss or cerebral palsy.

Doctors debated when to deliver Arthur, but decided to book a planned C-section at 36 weeks. Arthur was born at 2pm on 6 September 2022 at University Hospital Wales. After eight days in hospital, he was able to go home and is now a happy baby.
