But a mother forced her 21-year-old daughter to get married. For a few rupees, she got her daughter married to a person who was not right for her. The result was horrific. Within a month and a half of the marriage, something happened that destroyed the daughter’s life and now the mother has to pay for it. The court has sent her to jail.
According to The Guardian report, the case is from Australia. 40-year-old Sakina Muhammad Jan wanted to marry her 21-year-old daughter Ruqia Haidri to 26-year-old Mohammad Ali Halimi because Ali Halimi had given her a few rupees. Ruqia did not want to get married because she was married at the age of 15. However, that marriage broke up after two years. Since then, Ruqia was very unhappy. She had decided that she would not get married until she turned 28.
The court did not spare even the mother
But mother Sakina had taken money, so she forced the marriage. Unbearable pressure was put for this. The marriage took place, but Mohammad Ali Halimi turned out to be a criminal. He murdered Ruqia Haidri within a month and a half of the marriage. The court has sentenced him to life imprisonment. But the court did not spare the mother either. The court said that the mother put unbearable pressure on the daughter to get married. She tortured her daughter. The daughter wanted to study. She wanted to work. But mother Sakina forced her to get married.
‘Didn’t want my daughter to be alone’
The court has sentenced Sakina considering it a major crime. The Forced Marriage Act has been in force in Australia since 2013. It provides for a maximum punishment of seven years. This woman had escaped from Afghanistan and came to Australia in 2013. She was living in Victoria with her 5 children. The woman claims that she wanted the welfare of her daughter. She did not want her daughter to live alone. Let us tell you that for the first time in Australia a mother has been sentenced for such a crime.
