Worker fired for taking lunch break: Every company has its own policies and they make different rules and regulations for their employees. Some of these policies are in the interest of the employees, while sometimes there are some such policies, which create problems for the employees. Something similar happened with a person who went on lunch break without informing his seniors, instead of which he lost his job.
This incident happened in the year 2018 in Oxford. Here, an employee working in BMW named Ryan Parkinson took an hour’s lunch break and went to Burger King and ate a burger, after which he was fired. The mistake was that Parkinson did not tell his seniors about this, for which he had to face the punishment. Now the court has awarded a substantial compensation to the employee in the case.
Lunch break took man’s job
Ryan Parkinson was sitting at lunch as usual. All his fellow employees wanted to eat kebabs, but he had to eat burgers. Talking to LBC News, he told that he went to Burger King on the advice of his friends to buy a burger for himself and then ate it sitting in his car. Parkinson came to the job for 3 months in the year 2019 also, then he was fired. He appealed against his wrongful termination, after which he got reinstated in May, 2019 and was fired again in November, 2019. This time he was punished for bringing a sandwich from the car during the break.
Compensation taken through court case
In this case, Ryan filed a case against GI Group and justified his termination. He was recruited through this company and he alleged that this was done to him because of racism. Instead, he asked for compensation. The judge commented in the case that many people like this go out to eat during breaks, but why act on Ryan? After hearing the case, the court awarded compensation of £16,916 i.e. more than 17 lakhs to Ryan.
