The man was suffering from chest pain, considering it to be a minor illness the doctors kept giving him medicine, but the result was horrifying!

If there is any problem in our body, which we are unable to tolerate. In such a situation we go to the hospital for treatment. They meet doctors and explain their problems. Those doctors examine our body and give us appropriate medicine and send us home. Usually doctors give exactly the right medicine, due to which the disease goes away. But sometimes even doctors make mistakes. They are not able to detect the real disease. Something similar happened with Liam Handley, a resident of Glossop, Derbyshire, England. Liam often had chest pain. When he went to the hospital for treatment, the doctors said that the real cause of chest pain was ‘anxiety’. They gave Liam medicine related to stress and sent him home. Later, when Liam’s chest pain did not subside, he went to the hospital again, so the doctors increased the dosage of the medicine. But the reason behind chest pain was not any minor disease, but one of the most dangerous diseases was cancer. This cancer took the life of 37 year old Liam.

It is said that Liam was suffering from chest pain for the last several years. He had been tolerating it for a long time, but when the pain increased wildly, Liam reached the hospital. After examining him, the doctors gave him medicine and sent him home. Liam, father of four children, did not get relief from those medicines. In such a situation, he kept visiting the hospital again and again. But every time the quantity of his medicine was increased. After months of treatment, it was discovered that the real cause of Liam’s chest pain was lung cancer. But Liam could not get information about it at the right time and the infection continued to spread. Liam died a few weeks after finding out about the disease. Liam’s mother Lynn is deeply saddened by the loss of her son. “I don’t think we ever thought about lung cancer,” he told the Manchester Evening News. My son did not smoke cigarettes. He was absolutely healthy. That’s why we couldn’t even think of this. But even this thought did not occur to the doctors, due to which he is no longer among us.”

Liam’s family says that he was constantly under tension. Was extremely troubled by chest pain. Doctors were consulted, but they did not consider it appropriate to even get a chest X-ray done. In June 2020, his chest pain became so severe that his father took him to Tameside General Hospital for treatment. He thought he was having a heart attack. Liam was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lungs and was given blood thinners to dissolve the clot. He was discharged after a week and told that he would have to undergo a CT scan within four weeks. However, during that time the city scan could not be done due to the Corona epidemic. After this, Liam started having pain in his shoulders and lower back, for which he was given strong painkillers. The situation became so serious that his family decided to get a CT scan done at a private clinic, only then the real disease was revealed. Liam’s mother said that we cannot forget that day of 25 August 2020. The investigation revealed metastatic lung adenocarcinoma in Liam’s liver, spine and lymph nodes. This is a rare cancer.

Liam’s mother said that after investigation we were told that Liam would hardly survive for 4-6 weeks. The ground slipped beneath our feet. We also got angry at the doctors. They lost a lot of time in Liam’s treatment. If that doctor had examined Liam properly earlier, he would still be alive today. We would have got a chance to spend more time with our son. Further testing revealed that Liam had a genetically mutated lung cancer called adenocarcinoma EGFR exon19 positive. It usually affects people with little or no smoking history. However, when the treatment started after the cancer was diagnosed, Liam started recovering rapidly. After 12 weeks he also started walking. In December 2020, Liam married his girlfriend Louise. However, in April 2021, Liam again started having chest pain and became short of breath. Scans showed that the treatment was no longer working. In this way, he died on 4 October 2021 at the age of only 37. Recently, inspired by Liam’s story and many others like it, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has launched the Let Go of the Labels campaign to raise awareness about lung cancer.
