Ingredients to make Masoor Dal
Lentils – 1 bowl
Green chili – 2
Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
Bay leaf – 1
Dry red chili – 2
Panch phoron masala – 1 tsp
Green coriander – 1 tbsp
Mustard oil – 1 tbsp
salt – as per taste

Masoor Dal Recipe
To make Bengali style masoor dal, first clean and wash the masoor dal. After this, soak the lentils in water for half an hour. After the fixed time, put the dal in the pressure cooker. Put turmeric powder, green chillies and 2 cups of water in it, cover it and cook till 2 whistles. After this turn off the gas. When the pressure of the cooker is released, open the lid and with the help of a big spoon mash the dal a little.

Now put oil in a pan and heat it on medium flame. After it becomes hot, add bay leaves, red chili and panch phoron masala and fry for 20-30 seconds. After this add the cooked masoor dal to the spices. Pour half a cup of water on top. Stir the dal with the help of a spoon and add salt as per taste. Cook the dal till it starts boiling.

When the dal starts boiling, slow down the flame of the gas and let the dal boil on low flame for 1 minute. After this turn off the gas. Now add green coriander leaves (optional) to the dal and mix. Masoor dal full of Bengali flavor is ready. Serve it with roti, paratha or rice in lunch or dinner.
