The Telangana government has promised to implement a crop loan waiver scheme of Rs 2 lakh in a single crop season. Under this scheme, two phases have been launched at an interval of 15 days and the remaining waiver will be given in the next 15 days. This loan waiver is for those families who have taken crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh. However, if there is a government employee in the family then loan waiver is not being given and the conditions of PM Kisan Yojana are also being implemented. About 6.40 lakh farmer families will benefit from this scheme.

Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has claimed that the state government is implementing the crop loan waiver scheme of Rs 2 lakh in a single crop season as per its promise. Two phases of waiver have been started at an interval of 15 days. He said during the debate on voting on grant demands for 2024-25 in the Assembly that the remaining waiver will be provided in the next 15 days.

Benefit to lakhs of farmers

The agriculture minister said the loan waiver is for families who have taken crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh. BRS member Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said loan waiver is not being given if there is a government employee in the family and the conditions of PM Kisan Yojana are also being applied. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launched the second phase of the crop loan waiver scheme with a blueprint of over Rs 6,198 crore that will benefit about 6.40 lakh farmer families.

Third phase soon

In the first phase, crop loans up to Rs 1 lakh were waived on July 18, while in the second phase, loans up to Rs 1.50 lakh are being waived. The Chief Minister said that the third phase of loan waiver (for loans up to Rs 2 lakh) will be implemented in August.
