There is a huge deficiency of this nutrient in the body of Indians, fulfill it in this way or else you will get a serious disease

According to ‘Lancet Global Health’, Indians lack many nutrients. Especially iron, calcium and folate are lacking the most. This report also reveals that this deficiency is seen in people of all ages. This research has been done in 185 countries of the world. It found that there are 15 such nutrients which are present in less quantity in people’s body.

70 percent of people in the whole world do not eat iodine

This research is based on diet charts. An international team of researchers from Harvard University USA has said that this research has indicated that about 70 percent of the global population, which is equivalent to more than five billion people, do not consume iodine, vitamin E and calcium at all.

The research also found that in the same country and age group, a larger proportion of women than men are not consuming the right amount of iodine, vitamin B12 and iron. At the same time, more men than women consume insufficient amounts of magnesium, vitamin B6, zinc and vitamin C.

Situation in India

Indians found that a greater number of women than men were found to be iodine deficient. While a greater number of men than women had inadequate levels of zinc and magnesium.

10-30 years reduction

The research found that individuals aged 10-30 years are particularly susceptible to low calcium intake in South Asia, Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The authors suggest that these findings may help public health professionals identify populations that need dietary interventions.

They also noted that since the study did not consider consumption of fortified foods or supplements, the results may overestimate the deficiencies of some key nutrients, especially in regions where fortified foods and supplements are commonly consumed.

The scientists observed that these deficiencies are rooted in a diet of staple cereals such as rice and wheat, which lack these vital nutrients.  They said that the organic or absorption of these nutrients is often reduced by phytates and oxalates, which are commonly found in the vegetarian diet prevalent in India.
