Mohan Dhakale/Burhanpur: Bodarli village in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh presents a wonderful example of communal harmony and religious devotion. This village has been following a unique tradition for the last 50 years, where all the Hindu families come together and organize Urs every year at a Muslim Dargah, the Dargah of Bodar Shah Baba. The surprising thing is that there is not a single Muslim family in this village, but despite this, the faith of the Hindu community is so deep towards this Dargah that they themselves organize Urs and follow the tradition of offering chadar at the Dargah.
300 year old Dargah, Urs organized by Hindu society for 50 years
The Dargah of Bodar Shah Baba present in Bodarli village is considered to be about 300 years old. According to the villagers, this Dargah is a major center of faith and reverence for the village. People here go to the Dargah and wish for happiness, prosperity, wishes for children and good yield for crops. Anyone whose wishes are fulfilled comes back to the Dargah to pay darshan and express gratitude. Villagers believe that by offering chadar at this Dargah, their prayers are fulfilled and happiness and peace is maintained in the village.

People say that this Urs is an important opportunity for them for cultural and religious engagement, for which they wait throughout the year.
People from nearby villages also participate in Urs.
In this Urs of Bodarli, people not only from the village but also from other nearby villages participate in large numbers. Accompanied by bands, people carry chadars to the Dargah and offer prayers there. After offering the chadar, wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity are made at the Dargah. Villagers believe that this tradition brings prosperity to their crops and maintains prosperity in the village.
symbol of unity and harmony
This tradition of Bodarli village is not only an example of religious faith but also a symbol of communal unity. Organizing Urs by Hindu society at a Muslim Dargah is a unique and inspiring step in itself, which gives the message of unity and brotherhood to the society. At a time when many differences emerge in society over communal issues, villages like Bodarli remind us that faith and traditions are not the inheritance of any one religion or community.
