There will be a sun-like power plant on Earth, the new record of ‘Artificial Sun’ raises hopes, the benefits are no less.

Nuclear energy is also considered a source of renewable energy. In this, the use of nuclear fusion is seen as the most effective and harmless solution. Scientists are working hard to do this under controlled conditions. In this regard, South Korean scientists have announced a new world record. He has succeeded in maintaining a temperature of 100 million degrees Celsius in the nuclear fusion experiment. It is being told that it is seven times hotter than the core of the Sun.

The purpose of this nuclear fusion is to repeat the nuclear reaction that makes it possible for the Sun and other stars to shine. This was done by joining two atoms together so that a huge amount of energy could be released. Its most important thing is that it does not emit any kind of carbon or any other kind of pollution which can cause global warming.

Typically, fusion energy is obtained using a donut-shaped reactor called a tokamak. In this, scientists heat hydrogen variants at extremely high temperatures to create plasma.

Nuclear fusion reactors are vital to the future. It is not easy to maintain very high temperatures in these because plasma is unstable at very high temperatures. An EFE Fusion Research Instrument, KSTAR, is also known as the Artificial Sun. During last December 2023 to February 2024, it has made a record of maintaining the temperature of plasma at 100 million degrees for 48 seconds. It has broken its record of 30 seconds in the year 2021.

KFE scientists said they modified the process to extend the time period by using tungsten instead of carbon in the “diverter” to remove impurities and heat generated from the fusion reaction. The ultimate goal of KSTAR is to maintain the plasma temperature at 100 million degrees for at least 300 seconds by 2026.

These experiments will help develop the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, also known as ITER, in southern France, the world’s largest tokamak. Si-Woo Yoon said, “KSTAR’s work will greatly help in securing the projected performance in ITER operations on time and advancing the commercialization of fusion energy.
