Srijit Awasthi/Pilibhit: As soon as we hear the word territorial fighting, images of large species of animals like tiger, leopard and lion etc. come to our mind. But can you imagine that a beautiful bird, which is considered an example of beauty, can also adopt an aggressive attitude. Yes, the peacock which is known for its beauty also fights with other males for its territory.
A male peacock becomes very beautiful because of its feathers. At the same time, it looks different from females because of its wings. Most people know the peacock only for its beauty and its dance. But very few people know that this bird, which looks beautiful in its habitat, becomes quite dangerous.
Why does the peacock dance?
Senior journalist and wildlife expert Dr. Amitabh Agnihotri, who has been writing articles on Terai forests for a long time, while giving more information on the behavior of peacock, says that the mating season of peacock lasts from approximately March to September. Unlike humans, peacocks stay with the female only until mating. After this he turns towards other females. Usually peacock dances to attract females. During this period he becomes very protective of his territory.
After mating the male peacock separates from the female
Dr. Amitabh Agnihotri told that during this period he does not allow any other male peacock to enter his territory. This territory sometimes extends to acres. While protecting his territory, he also tries to woo females through aggressive behavior. However, usually more than one female is found in a peacock’s territory. After mating, the male peacock moves away from the female. After this the female takes care of the eggs.
