West Champaran:- In Bihar’s only tiger reserve “Valmiki”, a species of snake is also found whose eyes are exactly like those of a cat. Compared to most snakes, these snakes are nocturnal, becoming active for hunting as soon as it gets dark. These snakes look very scary because of their cat-like and outward bulging eyes. The fortunate thing is that cat snakes are mildly venomous and are less poisonous. This is the reason why no human being dies due to their bite. Although these snakes are very rare, they rarely encounter humans.
eyes like a cat
Rajeev Arya, working as a nature guide in the Valmiki Nagar range of the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, tells Local 18 that in the year 2022, the Common Cat Snake was seen near the Kotraha Guest House of the Valmiki Tiger Reserve. When tourists saw the snake’s eye, they found it very unique. According to experts, the eyes of the common cat snake look exactly like the eyes of a cat. This is why they are known as cat snakes. Compared to other snakes, the eyes of these snakes are bulging outwards, which looks very attractive but scary.
These snakes are rare, humans do not die from bites
Swapnil, a wildlife expert who has been working for the last 22 years, tells Local 18 that the common cat snake is one of the rarest species of snakes. This snake is rarely seen. They are mainly nocturnal hunters, who become active as soon as it gets dark. The thing to note is that during the day, the pupils of these snakes shrink into narrow vertical membranes. But as night approaches, the pupils dilate to an almost round shape. The good thing is that these snakes are mildly venomous. Despite being bitten by them, there is no danger of death to humans. However, their poison paralyzes small animals like lizards, frogs, rats and birds. This is the reason why these snakes like to eat birds, frogs, eggs, lizards etc. as food.
