He united the whole of India and ruled it and established the Maurya dynasty. Also, he was the first emperor who created a police system. So let us know about them today.

The name of Chandragupta Maurya is taken with great respect in history. Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Maurya dynasty, is considered the first emperor of India who spread his rule throughout India. There are many stories about Chandragupta’s birth, but when Chanakya became his guru, his direction changed. 

Chanakya initiated Chandragupta in Takshashila University. After which Chandragupta Maurya first ended the Nanda dynasty of Magadha and established his rule and then unified India which was divided into different parts. Chandragupta Maurya also did many works for the welfare of his people. Chandragupta is considered to be the first ruler who also established the first police system for the welfare of the public.

Why police system?
Chandragupta Maurya had created a police system, which was called Rakshit, to maintain discipline in the city and control crimes. From Greek sources it is known that there were three types of officers in the city administration – Agronoioi (District Magistrate), Antinomoi (City Commissioner) and military officers.

The army was divided into 6 parts
Chandragupta Maurya had also divided his army into 6 parts. In which the first committee used to inspect the industrial crafts. The other committee was responsible for looking after the foreigners. The third part of his army, i.e. the third committee, used to do the census work. The fourth committee looked after the arrangement of trade and commerce. The work of the fifth committee was to look after the sales arrangements and inspect them. Apart from this, the work of the sixth committee was to collect tax.
