Know what was the matter?
On 2 February 1946, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan The budget of India was presented. Actually, at that time Liaquat Ali Khan was the Finance Minister in the interim government of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. This budget was presented before the partition of India and Pakistan. However, this budget of Liaquat Ali was heavily criticized. When partition took place just one and a half years after this budget, Liaquat Ali Khan became the first Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Poor Man Budget
Mohammad Ali Jinnah Liaquat Ali Khan, who was close to him, presented this budget in the Central Legislative Assembly (today’s Parliament House). Even today in history, this budget is known as the ‘Poor Man’s’ budget. The industrialists of the country had also expressed their displeasure regarding this budget. Let us tell you that in this budget of Liaquat Ali, taxes were kept very strict, due to which businessmen suffered the most loss. In this budget, he had proposed to impose a tax of 25 percent on every Rs 1 lakh profit on industrialists and businessmen. Not only this, it was decided to double the corporate tax.
Anti-Hindu Budget
After the presentation of this budget, Liaquat Ali was accused. Serious allegations were made. People had termed this budget as anti-Hindu budget. The businessmen had alleged that they had deliberately imposed the provision of such tax. It was said that Liaquat was against Hindu businessmen, so this budget was prepared to harm them.
First PM of Pakistan
< p>After the partition of India and Pakistan, the command of Pakistan was handed over to Likal Ali Khan, he was made the first Prime Minister of Pakistan. Although he could not rule there for long, he was shot dead four years later in 1951.
