There was a period in history when every next step of the king was decided on the predictions of astrologers and astrologers. There were many kings and generals all over the world including India and Europe who believed in him. One of them was Afzal Khan, the commander of Emperor Adil Shah II. It is said about Afzal Khan that he was murdered at the hands of Shivaji. Let us tell you today an incident related to this, in which he murdered 63 of his wives.
What is the whole incident?
Indian Archaeology Surveyor Henry Cousins has written in detail on this incident in his book ‘Bijapur: The Old Capital of the Adil Shahi Kings’. According to them, in the year 1659, when the then Sultan of Bijapur, Ali Adil Shah II, sent Afzal Khan to fight Shivaji, before going on the campaign, Afzal Khan contacted his astrologers and astrologers to know the outcome of the war. >
Astrologers and astrologers told Afzal Khan that he would not return alive from this war. This prophecy had such a deep impact on Afzal Khan that he got a grave prepared for himself while he was still alive. Instead of the date of his death, he wrote the year of his departure for war on the tombstone. Apart from this, he also got a two-storey mosque built near his palace. Historians say that today the graves of 63 women are present around the place where Afzal Khan dug his grave. While one grave is empty.
This is how they killed their wives
Written in the book ‘Bijapur: The Old Capital of the Adil Shahi Kings’ It is said that Afzal Khan used to murder his wives by drowning them in water. Historian Lakshmi Sharat, in an article written for ‘The Hindu’, wrote that Afzal Khan pushed all his wives into the well one by one, so that they would not fall into the hands of anyone else after they died in the war. Some wives also tried to run away, but were caught and killed by drowning in the same manner. It is said that the one empty grave probably belongs to one such wife who Afzal Khan could not find after running away.
