Can people face problems during Chhath?

White foam is increasing once again in Yamuna. According to the DPCC report, the level of sewage in the river is increasing significantly. Due to which it can prove to be dangerous for those worshiping during Chhath. Due to good rains in August, the oxygen level in the river has increased more than before. But along with this, the level of fecal coliform in the river has also increased significantly.

According to Delhi Pollution Control Committee, the water of Yamuna River was tested in the month of September. Its report has been released on 4 October. According to this report, the level of fecal coliform in the river has increased significantly. Has reached 49,00,000 MPN/100 ml. This level is 1,959 times more than the standard level of 2,500 units. After February 2022, the level of sewage in the river has increased due to which it has reached a bad level. The level of fecal matter on Agra Canal has reached 63,00,000 units in February 2022.

How does the level of fecal coliform increase in a river?

According to the report, the DO level at the entry point of the river at Palla was 8 mg/l, while the BOD was 3 mg/l. The fecal level was 1,600 units. As the river progresses, the load of pollution, filth or rather its level increases. As soon as we reached Wazirabad, the BOD in Yamuna had exceeded the standard. DO and FC were within standards. By the time we reach Nizamuddin, the level of FC in the river becomes 11,00,000 units.
