It was loaded with 200 tonnes of silver, 110 lakh gold coins, thousands of diamonds, emeralds and gems. In today’s time its value will be more than Rs 1600 billion. The matter is of June 1708. There was a terrible war going on between Britain and Spain. During the fighting, a Spanish ship sank in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Colombia. The name of this ship with 64 guns was San Jose Galleon, which remained lost at the bottom of the sea for years. The government kept searching for it. Meanwhile, in 2015, the Government of Colombia announced that the wreckage of the ship had been found. It is lying about 3,100 feet below sea level. As soon as this became known, many claimants to the wealth came forward. After this the government did not tell where the ship was hidden.

Lost in the sea for more than 300 years
Now the government of Colombia said that they are going to take out this ship. It will be brought out of the water before the end of President Gustavo Petro’s term in 2026. Last year, divers of the Colombian Navy had captured pictures of the shipwreck. It was told that despite being hidden at the bottom of the sea for more than 300 years, most parts of the ship are completely safe. In the pictures the ship is seen covered with algae. The divers had also told that there were gold ingots and coins in the ship. Ceramic utensils, earthen pots and glass bottles were also found. Colombia’s Culture Minister Juan David Correa told Bloomberg that getting the ship out in the next two years is our priority. We will figure it out.

Many claimants to wealth came forward
As soon as the matter of taking out the ship came to light, an American team named Gloca Morra came forward. He claimed that he had discovered it in 1981 itself. Then the government of Colombia was informed. The coordinates of the wreck were handed over to the Colombian authorities. First of all we will have to give 10 billion dollars i.e. half of the treasury to Colombia. If the treasure is not found, we will sue the government. However, the Minister of Colombia rejected this claim. He said, the team of divers had gone there, but could not find anything. On the other hand, while the ship is claiming its rights on the treasure, Bolivia is also demanding the same.
