Nawab Hamid Ali Khan asked the Hakim to make something special, after which the Hakim followed his orders and made a special Halwa with various herbs, various types of dry fruits, milk and desi ghee. When the Nawab tasted this Halwa, he just kept eating it. Nawab Hamid Ali Khan liked this Halwa very much and since then it was named Habshi Halwa. From being a royal food, this Halwa is now available to the common people.

The shopkeeper says that the specialty of Habshi Halwa is that you can store it for one to two months in the winter season and eat it. Once someone tastes it, he definitely comes to Rampur to buy this halwa. He further said, ‘Habshi Halwa made in our shop is famous in Lucknow, Aligarh, Mumbai and Pune. Apart from this, it goes to many countries like Dubai, Kuwait, Saudi, and Ireland. Habshi Halwa, which started from the Nawabi era, is still eaten here a lot. There are big shops of Halwa from the district to the tehsils. Whoever comes to visit Rampur definitely buys Habshi Halwa from here and takes it home.

How is Habshi Halwa made?
This halwa is prepared in a special way by boiling milk. Milk, sugar, desi ghee, semolina and many herbs are mixed in it. Apart from this, almonds and pistachios are also added to make it crunchy. Halwa is prepared by mixing all these and its price is only Rs. 400 per kilogram.
