Lynn Emdin of Vereeniging, South Africa keeps her beloved figures, which were rescued from buying from second-hand websites and lovingly restored, in a large shed in her garden. The mother of four spends hours giving them all the love, dressing them in custom-made clothes and even spraying perfume on them.

Lynn also works for her family’s auto parts and accessories business. This hobby of his and his ‘she shed’ has become a safe haven. Lynn’s obsession first began 20 years ago when family friend Michael Tolme gave her a porcelain doll named Rose for her birthday. Two months later, Michael died tragically in a motorcycle accident at the age of just 21.

He told that Michael was his sons’ best friend and was like his son. Whenever she looks at Rose, she remembers Michael. Since then her love for porcelain dolls increased and she started collecting them wherever possible. Since then, the 59-year-old has rescued dolls from Facebook Marketplace in addition to other shopping communities.

Lynn is the mother of four sons and sometimes she feels that she started the collection because she did not have daughters. His sons get irritated seeing the growing collection. But Lynn’s 65-year-old husband Rick fully supports her. The couple doesn’t know how much they’ve spent on the collection, but they say restored porcelain dolls don’t amount to a huge sum unless they’re very rare.
