During the winter days in Bodh Gaya, there is a huge crowd of Buddhist devotees and tourists. This year is even more special for Buddhist devotees because Buddhist leader Dalai Lama is in Gaya for the last 8 days and will stay here till January 20. A teaching session of his is going to start from Thursday, in which thousands of Buddhist devotees from across the country and abroad will participate. In such a situation, many hotel restaurants have opened in Bodh Gaya. Most of the foreign tourists like Phalap and tea in food.

It is being told that on the day of teaching, about one lakh phalep will be given to Buddhist devotees. The local people have started preparing to make Phalep. It is said that the sale of Falep started in Bodh Gaya about 60 years ago. Earlier people from Tibet used to make and sell it. Then the local people learned to make this Tibetan bread and slowly now more than 300 families are running their homes by making Phalep.

Talking to News 18 Local, locals Sunil Kumar and Reena Devi, who make Phalep, told that it is a favorite dish of Tibetans and they eat it with great fervor. This phalep, commonly called Tibetan bread, is sold in the market for Rs.10 per piece. Falep is made in the same way as roti. First of all it is kneaded by adding soda to the flour. It is left overnight. Then by applying yeast, it is rolled out like roti and baked on a large iron griddle on low flame. This phalep is eaten with relish with tea.
