Tirupati Laddoos Row: The issue of animal fat being found in the laddus offered as prasadam at Tirupati temple is gaining momentum. On the prasadam controversy, Andhra Pradesh Congress State President YS Sharmila on Friday (September 20) wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged presence of animal fat in the ghee used in Lord Balaji’s laddu prasadam.

Andhra Pradesh Congress state president YS Sharmila shared a post on ‘X’. In which YS Sharmila on Friday (September 20) said that Home Minister amit shah submitted a letter to the Chief Minister, requesting an immediate CBI probe into the serious allegations related to adulteration of beef and fish oil in the ghee used in the preparation of the sacred Laddu Prasadam at the Tirumala temple. He said the CBI probe was demanded because “the Congress wants the truth to come out as this issue affects crores of people.”

YS Sharmila further wrote that given the deep religious sentiments of millions of devotees across the country, the matter needs a thorough investigation. If the allegations supported by the initial sample reports are confirmed, it is imperative that those responsible be severely punished to prevent any recurrence of adulteration in the future.

The controversy started after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of using substandard ingredients, including animal fat, in the preparation of the sacred Tirupati laddus offered at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati. TDP chief Naidu made these claims during the NDA legislature party meeting on Wednesday (September 18), saying, “Even Tirumala laddus were made with substandard ingredients. They used animal fat instead of ghee.”

Countering this, the YSR Congress Party led by former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has completely rejected these allegations. At the same time, former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Friday (September 20) that no violations took place during his government and the entire controversy is baseless.
