The Tis Hazari Court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) media coordinator Vikas Kumar Yogi. The court said that all the offences mentioned in the FIR are bailable, so anticipatory bail is not admissible. This case is related to the attack on a woman journalist and video journalist at the AAP office in Rouse Avenue.

Additional Sessions Judge Ramlal Meena rejected the anticipatory bail plea, saying that it cannot be considered maintainable. The court considered the reply of Delhi Police and the arguments of the public prosecutor and said that the crimes registered in the FIR are bailable at present. The accused filed the petition through lawyer Rajat Bhardwaj. It was argued that there is a real possibility of arrest in this case. Initially, the police said that all the crimes are bailable, so the petition is not maintainable. It was also said that the statement of the complainant woman journalist is to be recorded before the court.

The lawyer alleged that the incident took place on May 20, 2024, in which the woman journalist and her cameraman forcibly entered the house and misbehaved. He also said that before filing this FIR, the client had given a complaint, but the FIR was not registered. Instead, an FIR was registered against him, which was neither uploaded nor a copy was given to him. On the instructions of the court, a copy of the FIR was given to the accused. In the response of Delhi Police, it was said that custodial interrogation is required to identify the second accused.

The court said if the offence is bailable, why is custodial interrogation required? As of now, the offences are bailable. We don’t know when new sections will be added. However, the Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) clarified that it was a typographical error. The defence said how could it be a typo. The court said if the offences are bailable, anticipatory bail is not maintainable.

The court said that all the offences are bailable as of now. Therefore the bail plea is not maintainable. It is dismissed as not maintainable. Two days ago, an FIR filed by Delhi Police against AAP activist Vikas Yogi and others details an incident in which a young woman reporter and a video journalist of a private media house were allegedly attacked. Also, their camera was broken. It also mentions the use of abusive language and threats to two employees of the private media house, who were allegedly surrounded by 8-10 people and dragged out of the building.
