Traffic light: When was the traffic light invented, will driverless cars be able to recognize the signals now?

Whenever you drive on the roads anywhere in the world, you have to follow some rules. The first rule is to wear a seat belt for your safety while sitting in the car and to follow the traffic light rules for the safety of others while walking on the road. But do you know who invented the traffic light? Today we will tell you when and how the traffic light was invented.

Invention of traffic light?

The question is, when and at what time was the need for traffic lights? According to the information, in 1868, horses, ekkas and carriages used to run in London. Due to which the roads were full of their passengers. During this time, pedestrians had to face a lot of difficulties. During this time, the maximum crowd was at Parliament Square. Due to which someone often got injured after being hit by horses. During this time, there were not enough policemen there who could control the traffic. To deal with this problem, the idea of installing traffic signals came up.

World’s first traffic light

After this, on 10 December 1868, for the first time, a traffic signal was installed at Parliament Square in London. But this signal was very different from today’s signals. The traffic signals of that time had to be operated manually like the railway signal system. For which two types of lights, red and green, were installed in a pillar-like pipe. This light was run by gas. A policeman would fill gas in it through the pipe and then operate it. However, the gas traffic light was also very dangerous. After running for some time, there was an explosion once, in which the operator was seriously injured. After this, traffic signals were banned for the next 50 years.

Started again

After this, traffic signals were started again in Britain in the year 1929. But before this, in 1921, a police officer William Pott in Detroit, America, introduced a three-section traffic signal. In 1923, African-American scientist Garrett Morgan invented an electric traffic signal. After this, he sold his invention to General Electric for $40,000. Then, gradually, traffic signals started being installed in other countries of the world.

When did the yellow light come?

Let us tell you that the traffic signals that were there in the beginning did not have yellow light. Those signals only had red and green lights. When William Pott brought a three-color signal in 1921, he added yellow color to it. Which was a kind of alert indicator. Due to which the driver would start the vehicle and get ready.

Will driverless vehicles be able to recognize the signal?

With the advancement of technology, driverless vehicles are now starting to come in the world. But the question is, the way humans understand emotions and stop vehicles and help someone in an emergency situation. Will driverless vehicles be able to do this? According to experts, driverless vehicles will run on their own software and system.
