TRAI new rule SIMs will be blocked for spam calls from September 1 2024


TRAI New Rule: The government has become strict on the cases of continuous cheating of people in the name of spam calls. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is going to implement a new rule regarding this. Under this new rule, if anyone makes telemarketing calls from a private mobile number, then telecom operators will have to take strict action against them.

The government has been working for a long time to stop fraud through unsolicited calls in the telecom sector. This rule issued by TRAI will be made effective from September 1, 2024. Instructions have also been issued by the government to all the telecom companies of the country.

What does TRAI’s new rule say

In recent times, the government has been receiving a lot of complaints about fraud in the name of spam calls. Keeping this in mind, a new rule has been introduced. In this, if anyone makes a telemarketing call from a private mobile number, then that number will be blacklisted by the telecom operators for 2 years.

The government has issued a new mobile number series for telemarketing. Now the banking and insurance sectors will have to make promotional calls and messages only from the 160 number series.

After the implementation of the new rule, people will not have to face unwanted calls and messages. Automatically generated calls/robotic calls and messages have also been included in the new rule. After this action plan of TRAI, unwanted calls and messages will be stopped.

According to the data of the Department of Telecommunications, more than 10 thousand fraud messages have been sent in the last 3 months. Due to this, the government has adopted a strict stance regarding fraud and spam calls.

If you receive any such call or message, immediately complain about it on the ‘Sanchar Sathi Portal’. You can also register your complaint on 1909. Now it remains to be seen how much impact this new rule of the government will have on telecom operators and spam callers.
