Expansion
Due to the ongoing farmers’ agitation at the Shambhu border in Punjab, the operation of 80 trains has been disrupted for the last one month. Due to this, going to Jammu and Kashmir is no less than a problem for the travelers from Bareilly. Many people who visit the court of Mata Vaishno Devi every year during summer holidays are not able to muster the courage this time.
Those who had booked tickets earlier, are now getting them canceled after seeing the deteriorating speed of the trains. Some people are looking for its alternative. Due to diverted and short terminating trains, Railways in Moradabad division is incurring a loss of Rs 8 lakh every day. On Thursday, again 24 trains were diverted and three trains were short terminated till May 19.
Due to the farmers’ movement, the problems of passengers going from Bareilly to Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Kathua, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bathinda, Jammu are not ending. Ticket sales from Bareilly Junction to these places have decreased. Advance booking in trains going to Jammu, Vaishno Devi Katra has come to a halt. It is also affecting trains on other routes.
For this reason, apart from fast, superfast, special trains are also making passengers wait for 10-12 hours. Trains going from Bareilly towards Punjab and Jammu are being run via Jakhal-Dhuri Junction-Ludhiana, apart from Sanehwal-Chandigarh-Ambala Cantt and Ambala Cantt-Chandigarh-New Morinda-Sirhind-Sanehwal.
