The woman was murdered after being sexually assaulted.’ A copy of the preliminary post-mortem report is also with news agency PTI.
What came out in the report?
According to the four-page report, the woman was bleeding from her private parts and had injury marks on other parts of her body. She also had injury marks on her stomach, left leg, neck, right hand and lips.”
When was the crime committed?
Another senior Kolkata Police official said the crime took place between 3 and 6 am. “Her neck bone was also found broken. It seems she was strangulated first. We are waiting for the full post-mortem report, which will help us identify the culprits,” he said.
SIT was formed
Kolkata Police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the crime. Earlier, the half-naked body of a postgraduate trainee (PGT) female doctor was found in the ‘Seminar Hall’ of the government hospital on Friday. The trainee doctor found dead was a second year student of the Department of Chest Diseases and was on duty on Thursday (August 8) night. Injury marks have been found on the body of the trainee doctor.
The trainee doctor’s father had alleged that she was raped and then murdered inside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and now efforts are being made to hide the truth. A senior police officer said, ‘The body of the trainee doctor was recovered by her colleagues from the seminar hall of the emergency building. We are talking to doctors, nurses and others who were on duty with her last night. The matter is being investigated.’
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave assurance
Sources said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the woman’s parents and assured them of appropriate action against the culprits. The victim’s father said, “My daughter was raped before being killed. The injury marks on her body are proof of this. She was found in a semi-nude state. An attempt is being made to hide the truth. I am unable to understand why they (hospital authorities) are delaying the investigation.”
Student organizations took out a rally
Several student organisations took out a rally demanding an inquiry into the death of the female doctor. Several opposition BJP leaders, including MLA Agnimitra Paul, also visited the hospital and demanded an independent inquiry by a magistrate. Ruling Trinamool Congress leader Dr. Santanu Sen told reporters, “We want an impartial, transparent and detailed inquiry into the entire incident.”
Sen, who was the president of the Indian Medical Association, said that the Mamata Banerjee administration has always been in favor of women’s safety. Sen, who was a member of the Rajya Sabha, said that an investigation has begun. Dr. Manas Gumta, a senior member of the Association of Health Service Doctors, alleged that efforts were being made to “suppress” the case. Gumta said, “This is unexpected, and this has never happened before in Bengal.”
