What is the difference between HIV and AIDS
The full form of HIV is Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which attacks the WBC (White Blood Cells) in the immune system of the body and weakens the immunity so much that the body is not able to recover easily from even a minor injury or illness. Whereas AIDS is a medical condition that occurs due to HIV. It is not necessary that every HIV positive person gets affected by AIDS, but AIDS occurs only and only to HIV positive people.
When does an HIV positive person get AIDS
AIDS is a later stage of HIV. Once a person gets infected with HIV, recovery is not possible but with the help of medicines, one can avoid reaching the dangerous stage. If HIV is not treated on time, it reaches the serious stage 3. Then it develops into AIDS. There are many people who are HIV positive but do not have AIDS.
Symptoms of HIV infection
1. Symptoms start appearing in two to four weeks.
2. Initial problems like fever, headache, rash or sore throat
3. Rapid weight loss, diarrhea, cough, swollen lymph nodes
How dangerous is AIDS, what is the reason
According to WHO, AIDS is not a disease but when it occurs, the immunity becomes so weak that the body is easily susceptible to diseases and is unable to recover from them. AIDS is caused by the HIV virus, which can spread through unsafe sex, through blood from an infected person or during pregnancy or from an infected mother to her child during delivery.
HIV treatment and prevention
There is no cure for the HIV virus yet, however, recently in South Africa, a successful trial of an injection has been done to prevent it, which can be administered twice a year to prevent this virus. Work is still going on on this. With the help of some medicines, HIV can be controlled and it can be prevented from reaching a dangerous stage.
HIV medicines are called antiretroviral therapy (ART). To avoid HIV, one should be careful while having physical relations. Only clean and new syringes should be used. If symptoms of the disease appear, one should go to the doctor and take antiretroviral therapy if needed.
