Tripura rape victim alleged sexual assault on district magistrate complaint filed with bar asso


Tripura Magistrate Case: A rape victim in Tripura has made serious allegations against the magistrate. She claimed that the magistrate sexually assaulted her inside his chamber in the court. According to a senior lawyer, a 3-member committee headed by Dhalai District and Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar has started investigating these allegations.

The victim said that the incident of sexual exploitation took place on 16 February. She had gone to the chamber of the First Class Judicial Magistrate of Kamalpur to record her statement in the rape case.

The woman lodged a complaint

The victim woman has sent a complaint regarding this to the Additional District and Sessions Judge. In this she wrote, “I had gone to the chamber of the First Class Judicial Magistrate to record my statement on 16 February. When I was about to give my statement, the judge touched me inappropriately. I came out of his chamber and informed the lawyers and my husband about this incident.” The woman’s husband also lodged a separate complaint regarding this incident with the Kamalpur Bar Association.

Committee is investigating

On the complaint of the victim, District and Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar along with Chief Judicial Magistrate Satyajit Das visited the office of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kamalpur to investigate the matter. Bar Association Secretary Shivendra Dasgupta said, “The three-member committee headed by the District and Sessions Judge also met the members of the Kamalpur Bar Association in the court premises.”

Tripura High Court Registrar General V. Pandey said on the allegations against the judge, “We have not yet received any official complaint in this matter. Like other people of the state, I also came to know about it from the media and social media platforms. Once we receive the complaint in the proper format, we will definitely take appropriate action.
